Properties Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic produced by a strain of Streptomyces fradiae. It exerts its antimicrobial effect by inhibiting protein synthesis of susceptible micro-organisms. Tylosin spectrum of activity includes Gram- positive bacteria including Clostridium perfringens and some Gram-negative strains such as Pasteurella and Mycoplasma spp.
Indications Chickens and turkeys: For treatment of Mycoplasma synoviae airsacculitis in chickens and Mycoplasma gallisepticum S6 in chickens and turkeys. In the field Tylosin has also proved useful in reducing the level of infection following stress associated with live vaccination. Treatment of outbreaks of necrotic enteritis in chickens caused by Clostridium perfringens. Pigs: For treatment of enzootic pneumonia, swine dysentery and other scours caused by organisms (e.g. Lawsonia intracellularis) Calves: For treatment of pneumonia in associated with Mycoplasma and Pasteurella multocida

Composition

Each 100 ml contains Colistin (as colistin sulphate) 2 M.I.U (equivalent to 83.33 mg)

Properties

Colistin is a polypeptide antibiotic belongs to the class of polymyxins. Colistin has a bactericidal action on sensitive bacterial strains, by disorganization of their cytoplasmic membrane, leading to an alteration of cell permeability and thus to a loss of intracellular material. Colistin has a bactericidal power against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative bacteria, including enterobacteria and in particular Escherichia coli. Colistin has very little activity against Gram-positive bacteria and fungal organisms. Gram-positive bacteria, as well as some species of Gram-negative bacteria such as Proteus and Serratia, are naturally resistant to colistin. However, the acquisition of resistance of Gram-negative enteric bacteria to colistin is rare and can be explained by simple mutation. Colistin exhibits concentration-dependent activity against Gram-negative bacteria. Following oral administration, high concentrations are observed in the gastrointestinal tract, i.e., the target site, due to the low absorption of the substance.
